Not even sure where to start, I booked this place on a whim and it was more than I could ever have hoped for. Firstly the whole place is beautiful. A real jungle retreat, set back from the main road making it a lovely peaceful place to retreat too after a long day. I’ve never slept so well in my life. The rooms are lovely (I stayed in a bungalow). Ceiling fan, air conditioning, comfortable beds, a lively relaxing deck overlooking the trees (and monkeys!). The rooms were super clean and cleaned every day (if you desire). There is a lively restaurant and bar on site doing breakfast in the morning and Juan runs El Bodegan in the evenings. Great food at great prices but more importantly the place is incredibly welcome because Juan is the nicest guy in the world, even if you just want to sit and hang out, that’s fine with Juan! The rest of the staff are equally incredible, aside from being super lovely, there is approximately nothing they won’t do for you. Whether you need help hiring an ATV, booking activities, getting surf lessons or you just want to chat, they are always there. Huge shout out to Franco, Nas, Guido, Nacho, and Gabriela who turned my stay from a great one into a perfect one! Wonderful place and I hope to return one day.

I stayed at the Funky Monkey for a week as my first visit to Santa Teresa. I had the best time ever!! The people who work here were the best part of my stay. Everyone is so friendly and I can definitely say I made wonderful friendships. The outdoor bar/restaurant had great vibes and the chef Juan Cruz is very kind and delivers wonderful service. Highly recommend this hotel for people looking for an authentic, relaxed vibe. Great spot to hang out for a drink and make some friends, whether it be the hotel staff or other travelers, even if you don’t stay here!

Stayed for a long weekend and really enjoyed it. Great central location and super easy to check in and just ask for the experiences you want without booking ahead of time, low stress! But the best part was the very friendly and welcoming staff! Absolutely lovely human beings that make you feel welcome and comfortable. Surf lessons were fun and informative and i cant wait to surf again!

We stayed here for a week and it was our first time to Costa Rica and we could not be happier, the service was top notch and the staff was friendly and would arrange all your activities that you are willing to do. Very clean with daily room cleaning and restock. Would highly recommend this place to anyone. The food on site was amazing, the steak was superb, highly recommend. Great home fresh meals.

Our stay at the Funky Monkey was amazing ! We loved our room next to the main dining area. Room was very clean and comfortable with a beautiful deck looking into jungle. Saw howlers and white face monkeys hanging out on the property loving the mangoes. We used the yoga platform and pool everyday. Very quick walk or ATV ride to beach. It has the perfect location ! The staff was so super friendly and very accommodating. Gabby (owner) was so sweet and made us great breakfast every morning. She was so helpful with any questions about surf and town etc. I will be be back to ST and would never stay anywhere else !
